I want to do an engine swap, i am 17, i have money, tools, and a shop, but i cant make up my mind, my 78 f-150 4x4 has a 300 I-6. Its getting old, i want to get some more power for off-roading and i am thinking either a 351w (because of the power and theres so much aftermarket parts), a 390 (because i have a friend that has one that he might sell me), or build up my 300 I-6 (because i have three other trucks with the same engine). Does anyone have an opinion?

"351w (because of the power and theres so much aftermarket parts),"
I agree on the above.
390-You would have to get a bellhousing and such to fit this engine.
300-Very neat to soup up and definitely would not be very common in the neighborhood when you lifted the hood. In other words, you would be raising the hood all the time for people to see. But this not being popular comes at a price. The parts to soup up the six are not cheap, and you would have to do your homework and tell the machine shop what you want done, since they probably have never done any hotrod work on a six either. But anything worth having is never easy.
If you install an engine that was never offered in your vehicle. make sure you have twice as much money as you think you need and five times as much time set aside. A chain reaction will ensue everytime. I'm not telling you not to do it. The 351W is a fine choice and should be far easier than the 390.
