What is normal RPM's to idle in gear w/ A/T?

I have a 01 F250 with an automatic transmission. My truck idle's about 660-670 rpm's when not in gear. When I put it in reverse or drive the rpm's will raise to about 800-820. I do have an Edge Evolution, and these issue's were present prior to the Edge. I find myself putting the truck in neutral at most lights because you have to keep the brakes mashed pretty firm to keep it from moving. IS THIS NORMAL? Thanks in advance.

I was afraid of this. Can you tell me what is the normal rpm's in gear and out of gear is? I can adjust the rpm's throught the Edge, but I don't think I should have to. Thanks

I believe it is computer controlled. The mechanic at the Ford dealership did tell me last June when I had a new engine put in that he reprogrammed my computer to update it. Whatever that meant. I don't know if he might have done something then. I do not remember the way it idled prior to that because I had only had the truck less than a week when the engine was replaced.

700 out of gear is normal. Mine drops a bit in gear, but not much.

If you can adjust it then set it to where you would like it. 800 sounds about normal.

It isn't adjustable. Something is wrong and needs to be fixed. It should idle slower in gear than in neutral.

I agree I did not think this was normal. I just checked it again and I was dead on on the rpm's. It raises about 140+ rpms when put into gear even after I have been driving it for awhile.

You can go into the Edge and adjust the idle rpm's, but idling in neutral is not a problem. I am not going to adjust it through the Edge, because apparently there is an issue. I will contact my mechanic today.
