Trey, the dash was out of the donor. I want to use as much as possible, but it is pretty faded and cracked. Will be more careful on the install

Uhhh, no it really won't. It will sound cool for the first day or so. After that, it will become a headache-inducing, teeth rattling nightmare. After your first trip down the highway, you'll want to get out and walk.

Mufflers help to control not just the volume, but also the tone/pitch of the exhaust sound. It's the muffler that gives that nice deep rumble everybody likes; and without any muffler at all, even a V8 will sound like a ricer with a fart can muffler. Lots of resonance, and a bad "tinny" vibration.

As for the legality, while it may or may not be a state equipment law where you live, you also have to consider noise ordinances in every town/local jurisdiction you travel through. Also, with no mufflers at all, plan on not being able to drive it at night, without really pissing off the neighbors.

As for "glasspacks", they have been proven to flow very poorly, compared to a "turbo" style or a Flowmaster type baffling system. "Glasspacks" and "Cherry Bombs" are only for getting a particular sound. They will hurt performance. The best choice is a complete cat-back system, like from Gibson or MAC,etc... However, if you're doing a custom system, and just looking for a muffler, then something like a Flowmaster, or something like a Dynomax Super-Turbo would work well. The key to minimizing muffler restriction, while still maintaining a reasonable sound reduction, is to size the muffler slightly larger than the incoming and outgoing pipes in/out of it. For example, if you have a 2.5" exhaust, then you might want a muffler labeled as a 3". Then just use adapters/reducers to connect it to your smaller exhaust pipes.

....

now what this has with what i done with my truck is well nothing...

just wondering what every one elses thoughts on this are because all that i thought of was... what a DA
I think it is just an explorer, and shoving a potatoe over the end of her aint going to make much difference really. Not to be rude or nothin, but it sadens me to know someone would try to get more out of so little LOL. Thanks for helping to keep things lively on here, and supporting our troops kori

The one with the 4 stacked gauges, I actually like it much better than my old gauges..

its really not something that ive done to it, but I got a call from my dad today, he was telling my how a guy stopped by and asked who owned my 88. as it turns out he got it when the first owner passed away. he was the one who gave it its lovely rattle can paint job, but he also talked about how the origonal owner dropped in a new engine, transmisson, clutch, etc. about 5 years ago. its still the best 500 bucks i have ever spent...

i did however go home over memorial day weekend, and among other things me and my buddy cleaned the egr and iac, and adjusted the tps and tv cable on his 89, made it run a whole lot nicer.

Spent all day yesterday cleaning up corrosion and gunk on Clyde and the Zombie Runner (99 Toyota 4Runner). Cleaned off battery terminals and cables. They're like new and coated with my free sample of Fluid Film, (thanks Dano!). Wiped off hoses and cleaned out intake system. Started wiping off EGR, specifically the PCV valve and hose from the crankcase to the carbon box near the battery. Does anybody have any suggestions on what would help me remove that gunk and what would be best to cut through all the dirt and caked on grime all over the engine?

Greased Lightning, or Castrol Super Clean sprays work pretty well. I usually spray the engine, let it sit a few, spray it again, and scrub it down with some brushes. I've found those cheap horsehair bristle paint brushes work well. After that I rinse it down with the garden hose.

Sorry I didn't see this yesterday. I didn't take the dash out of mine, the only thing I did was unbolt the steering column (4 main bolts on the aluminum bracket) and let it move around for some wiggle room. Make sure you're up on your stretches so you're flexible to get in those tight spaces.....Other than that it's pretty straightforward
