What trans is in here?
I got the vin code from the owner and i was wondering how to tell what transmission is in the truck from the vin as the vin decoder on the site doesn't list transmission. 2FTEF14Y5DCA63071 I am hoping its something good.

Just tell us what the truck is and we can probably tell you what transmission it is.

Its an 83 f150, 300 I6, 4x4, long bed, regular cab.

it would help to know if it a stick or auto and if its a stick what the shift pattern is or more importantly if its an overdrive or 1:1 4th

The transmission code is not listed in the VIN.

The TRANS code is on the Warranty Plate and/or Certification Label ~ Left door face below the latch or on the drivers side door jamb (B pillar).

Code: K = C6 / T = AOD.

Gotta agree with Mark. An '83, six, 4x4 would almost have to be a C6.

Just heard back from the owner, the letter on the door tag is a K, looks like it has the C-6. How good of a unit is the C-6?

The C6 is one of the best automatics ever made. Its downside is that it doesn't have overdrive and doesn't have a lockup torque converter, so your RPMs on the highway will be pretty high and your fuel economy won't be really high.

Sounds like it is a stout unit. I would mainly use it around town and for 4x4, I'm going to take a look at it tomorrow!
