Jack question for a beginner

Hello all, i'm going to purchase a hydraulic jack so I can do my brakes on my truck. I have an 05 supercrew, will a 3 1/4 ton jack be ok to use?

More than enough...make sure you purchase a GOOD set of jack stands as well, just using a jack is dangerous and NEVER acceptable. Also, what type of jack are you buying?

something like this

Craftsman 3 ton Floor Jack - Model 50136 at Sears.com

with a pair of these (actually i'd like bigger stands, more in the 6 ton range for added safety)

Craftsman 3 ton High Lift Jack Stands - Model 50159 at Sears.com

should do you just fine....

this is the exact jack that i have, and use all the time..... the only negative thing i can say about it is that it doesnt have the "one pump quick lift to chasis" feature.... since my truck is lifted, it takes a bit to reach it, so i usually use a block of wood in between the jack and truck to help out.

I used to do that with my 95 until the truck rocked a bit once and started falling off the block of wood.....lucky it had the stands under it and it didn't come all the way down.
