I understand that a spare tire was an extra cost option on these trucks, amd assume the jack was too. What style jack was in the option package and where was it originally stored?
It was a screw type bottle jack with a tire iron that you would insert in the jack to screw it up or down. My truck was bought new by my dad and it was always under the front pass side. Now I have it rapped in bubble wrap under the seat.
Does anyone have a picture of the undertruck spare tire installed? I have pieces of the tire carrier, but not the beam itself and was wondering what it looked like.
Not sure if it's the info requested, swapped out for underneath when I had to replace driver's side rear fender and could not find replacement fender with the indentation for the spare. Anyhow, as pathetic as the the pic's are, posted them for another member with simular question. It's difficult to tell from pic's but the long bolts are secured to the frame, 1 end of the bracket is secured close to the rear of the driverside tire and the other end of the bracket is secured to the frame using a long bolt with an eye hook, once the tire and bracket are lifted into place the eye bolt fits thru a corresponding slot in the bracket. I use a safety clet to make sure the bracket and tire stay secured underneath the bed. Imagine the placement can vary, suggest setting the tire with bracket to desired location and mark the location for the bolts. I would not be surprised if the holes are not already drilled in the frame. Also, suggest double nut, or use a locking type nut making sure the bolts are secured to the frame. Also have 65 lwb and seem to recall the bracket is longer, I am certain a more knowledgeable member can advise if there bracket comes in different lengths. Anyhow , when you get a chance look underneath the how's will be fairly clear.
