Floor Jack Placement
When jacking up either the front or rear of my truck where should I place the floor jack? Do I place the jack on the pumkin? or just lift one side of the axel and place a stand.

I've used the pumpkin before but don't like doing that. I don't like the thought of the axle tubes holding up the weight of the truck. It probably doesn't matter, but that is what I think. So what I do is use two floor jacks, one under each spring shackle and then place the stands right next to the jacks, but leave the jacks there. The stands are just there for a safety in case one of the jacks fail.

when i jack up the entire front end, say for installing my lift, i jack on the framerail behind the spring shackle, behind the spring. then use several 2x8 boards in a square to raise the jackstands up some so it's a firm base, and also to make it taller. it is alot of weight hanging over the stands, but it keep the front end entirely open for working on. when i jack up the back, i usually use a 6x6 to shorten the travel of the jack, and i lift by the center of the class-v reciever. then use two jackstands to support both ends of the receiver. i have some pics from my lift if you need.
