Wrong dipstick?
My dipstick says "WARRANTY REQUIRES SE/101-C OIL". I have a '76 F-150 with a 360 and it has always used oil, even after a rebuild and was thinking maybe it had the wrong dipstick and i've been adding too much. Anyone know how to tell? Thanks all--Marvin

Stock 360 holds 5qts, change the oil and filter, put in 5qts and start engine and then shut it down, let it sit for a few mins. and check the oil and see where it reads. If it does not read on the full mark on your stick, mark it at the top of the oil and use it.

Stock 360 (352 & 390 the same) takes 5 quarts?
As long as you DON'T change the filter it does.
Change the oil and the filter on the truck, it takes 6 quarts.
Do the same with a car, it takes 5 quarts.

Read your owners manuals for verification!!
And this holds true for most Ford truck engines, regardless of the size.
Including the 223/262's / 240/300's.
Look at the dipstick, is there an ID number on it?
Post what it is.
No number?
Measure the stick from below the flange to the end.
As long as you DON'T change the filter it does.
Change the oil and the filter on the truck, it takes 6 quarts.
Do the same with a car, it takes 5 quarts.

After your next oil change remark the dipstick. My old 88 Mustang GT showed "full" at 4 qts after the first oil change I did. Knowing better I marked the dip stick at 5qts. And did find a service bulletin later on about it and to make a new scribe line at 5 qts full.

You ppl better check and see if your dipsticks are the right ones.

Bob, I've owned the same 1965 F100 since March of 1965 (bought it brand new), it takes 6 QUARTS of oil with a filter change.
And, while it's a 352, if it were a 240 or 300, it would also take 6 quarts.
I've been doing this for over 40 years, I was a Ford partsman for 35 years, and worked the shop counter most of that time.
I've NEVER seen a FE engine in a truck take 5 quarts with a filter...NEVER!
LOOK AT YOUR DIPSTICKS FOR FORD ID NUMBERS - AFTER 30 + YEARS, WHO THE HE!! KNOWS WHAT'S IN THERE NOW?
I HAVE THE EXACT MEASUREMENTS FOR 1965/76 FE DIPSTICKS USED IN TRUCKS & 1965/71 AS USED IN CARS, MEASURE YOUR'S USING THE SPECS I LISTED ABOVE, POST WHAT THEY ARE.

I ran into the dipstick problem when I changed the engine from 2 wheel drive pickup to 4x4 ,had to change oil pan so took different dipstick than when in other pickup.

Yes, 4WD's use a different dipstick than 2WD's.

What you need to think about here his that after 30 plus years not only could the dipstick have been changed but the oil pan and pickup too. I've seen many trucks out there with car pans on them...usually because an engine changeout was done, the donor engine came out of a car, and whoever did it didn't bother to swap parts...(pan, pickup, etc). When I got my 73 with a 390, some previous owner had put a chrome pan on it that was a car 390 pan. I was **** about wanting more capacity...when I rebuilt it I installed an FT full length sump pan...I think it will hold about 13 quarts if filled to the top of the full mark on the dipstick....can't say as I know though....it's so much that really never worry about it....when I change the oil I usually buy 3 gallons, call it good, and never worry till the next change....LOL.
