I have a 92 f-250, with a 460. I am in the middle of installing hedman headers and for the life of me I can't get my dipstick back in correctly. I can't even get it to push all the way in the pan again. I'm starting to wonder if the previous owner put the wrong tube in it and just siliconed it in. Someone please post a picture of the oil dipstick tube.
I believe there was a change from a screw-in tube to a push-in tube in 1989.
Usually if the hanger welded to the dipstick tube is in the approximate position, where it mounted to the OEM exhaust manifold bolt's machined stud, where it is attached with a nut (or was), then it should be oriented for insertion.
On my 302 the tube was push in and I had to bend the tube to clear the headers. I modified the stock bracket to bolt to the valve cover bolt. Works great
I took my driver side header back off to put 2 heli coils in and while I had it off I put the dip stick in. Once I had it in I took a picture so I could have a better ides of how to place it once I got my headers back on. I ended up not running it between the tubes, but instead outside the headers completely. I have it tied off but not bolted through a header bolt. I don't really like it and will redo it soon.
