Horn Problem

I just did a search and could not find the answer to my question.

I removed my steering wheel to find the reason my horn wasn't working. I found the wire for the horn is missing from the column.

How can I rewire it so it will work with my new steering wheel?

I guess,I was surprised to see no wire sticking up at all.

Non-cruise wheel.

Normally the ground wire connector slides down into the hole on the steering wheel.

with the other wire connected to the horn pad.

For the horn to work the ground strap on the rag joint has to be attached.
Then the grounding area on the bottom of the steering wheel is touched by 2 pins.

I'll post some pics for you.


In this pic see the strap on the rag joint to allow steering column to ground to the steering box

Thanks Mil1ion that will help. I just came in and I took the turn signal cam out and found it was a copper or brass button that makes the horn work. I took my test light and hooked the ground up inside the column and the horn blew one time the rest I could hear the relay clicking. So I will pick up a new relay later today.I didn't find a 2nd pin.

Mil1ion how does it ground with a factory 4 speed?

1973/77 turn signal switches / 1973/79 horn relay

D6TZ13853A .. Horn Relay (Motorcraft HB-112).

Fits: 1973/79 F100/350 (D6TZ-13853-A replaced D3TZ-13853-A).

D3TZ13341A .. T/S Switch / Fits: 1973/77 F100/350 with M/T.

D3TZ13341B .. T/S Switch / Fits: 1973/77 F100/350 with A/T w/o Cruise Control.

The T/S switches are still available from FoMoCo.

Same way OTR.. it has nothing to do with the transmission.

We got the horn to work,but the weird thing is that it won't blow if the steering wheel is straight. But if you turn the wheel in either direction and push on the horn button it blows just fine. I guess thats the horn relay?

I have the same problem its been driving me nuts one minute it works next it doesn't but always shows volt on the meter. Just read this and turned the wheel slightly bonk bonk it works. Any suggestions? Relay or is it in the column. Thanks.

First, what year truck are we dealing with? 73-77 use a horn relay that is grounded by the horn switch to make the horn blow. 78-79 don't use a relay unless you have factory cruise control, then there's a relay in the circuit.

Its a 75 f100 4 on the floor no cruise control. I got it working red pn power supply and grounded to the steering cross support. It works perfect now except for dead center.
