thinking of going flat black on the whole truck, wondering what it would look like.
I painted my truck semi-flat black 2 years ago, was only meant to be temporary until i decided what color to go with but i really liked it so just left it.
I'm thinking of taking off all the trim on my 76 F250 4x4 Highboy Ranger XLT,
painting it flat black and using some stick on pin striping that looks like barbed wire,
I think it will look pretty cool
just get creative with accent colors and accessories
I took the side moldings off of mine but I left the grill chrome. Mine is flat black also. I like it but I kinda miss the chrome strip. So just hang onto yours if you take it off incase you ever want to put it back. I sold mine like a fool.
I guess I wouldn't put the chrome on if you want a solid look to your truck. No sense in painting chrome if you want it to match your truck. It will blend in and you won't be able to really tell if you have chrome or not, IMO.
I went with gloss black on Buford, but I decided to keep the trim so as to break up the body lines a little bit. I like the balance between the black and the chrome, but that's my preference.
There's a website called Jim's trucks or something, and he sells a lot of 73-79 trucks, and I've noticed he paints the grille shells to match the truck. To be honest, that's never done a thing for me....just doesn't seem to look right. But again, that's just my opinion. Basically, it's all about what you want, and how you envision your ride.
Behemoth...not to sure how far of a restore you're gonna do on Buford...but a little bit of advice I learned the hard way...was after my truck came out of the paint booth I decided I still wanted the chrome trim...well after I got one side on the old dingy chrome looked so nasty and detracted from the truck. So I took it of and filled in the holes and needed some more paint. So I put a 1/4" pinstripe all the way around the racetrack. Luckily I got a good bit of cash and redid the chrome I had AND got a the all new full racetrack chrome from Dennis Carpenter just in case.
UTfball68....not sure if you've snooped in my album or not, but as you can probably see, the lengths that I've gone to restore Buford have wandered into the slightly psychotic. On the trim note, however, I've acquired all new side trim from Dennis Carpenter, even though my original trim wasn't half bad. I have new trim pieces for the front grille, headlights, taillights, and tailgate too. Actually, the side trim should be going on the body this week.
Anyway, I knew that a brand new black paintjob with the old trim wasn't going to work, so I forked out the cash for the new stuff........just gotta keep tellin myself, "Mmmmm, ramen is gooooooooooood".
