Help with radar detector mounting location

I am looking for an unobtrusive location to put a radar detector in my truck. I plan to hard wire it in and not screw with it. The place I want to put it is above the rear view mirror, but it has the darn superduty logo there. will it still work ok, or will the logo mess it up?

If you haven't bought one already, there are several available that remote mount the sensors. Valentine1 and Rocky Mountain Radar are the first two I can think of.

As long as the tint (superduty strip) doesn't have any metal in it, you should be good. I am not sure how mounting it that high will effect it's performance, might help with laser, but may not register radar quickly enough.

Keep in mind that the higher you can get the detector, the better it will work for you.

Picture you are driving down a road, it has a shallow rise. A radar gun is just over the top of the rise, pointed at you. As you come up the slope, the first thing that radar gun will "see" is the top of your cab, then the rest of the truck as you come over the "radar horizon". If your detector is sitting on your dash, the detector will not "see" the radar gun until almost the entire cab is exposed.

Above the mirror (and behind the logo) will be just fine. Ka and K band bounce around a bit, so it will see it. Lidar, not the case.

Looks great! I think I need one for my truck.

How does it mount to the mirror? Do you have to drill, or does it glue or what? Just concerned about drilling with that backup-camera display in the review.

Whats the contact info for the guy who makes them??

i have a whistler under the inner windshield mount metal bracket hardwired to the ignition. it has been there for ten years. best thing ever. the radar will travel through the sticker but laike any radar, if you block the signal with anything other than glass, you are increasing the chances of a ticket. you are better off intalling it wherever, and x-acto a small peek-a-boo box on the sticker where the radar lines up on the windshield. and yes that the BEST place for it. i also did that in my mustang....

Wink Try this . . .

I mounted mine right to the windshield with the cup's. Hard wired it through the mirror and roof to the fuse panel. Couldn't do the mirror mount as I have the home link mirror. This let's me take it out as well when I park somewhere unsafe.

Here's a pic . . .

I used the suction cup mount and placed it above the mirror, although that was in my F150...nothing at the top of the windshield. Although it sounds like it shouldn't be an issue. Then I hard wired mine to the power going to the overhead console.

It is an issue as the cups won't stick to the dimples in the F250 decal, or whatever it is. So low, below the decal, is the only way to go w/ cups.

The only way I have to contact him is email.
mike3348@adelphia.net
hes pretty quick to get back to you and he'll give you ordering info,

as for mounting it, its very easy, no drilling or anything,
it simply clamps onto the stem.
the mount is actually two pieces if you can imagine what Im saying.
once again I love it, it made the radar bounce a little at first because you are going to utilize the metal part of the suction mount with mikes mount but if you wrap the metal in electrical tape then mount your radar it doesnt rattle or anything.
