built in radar detector

I have an 02 F350 that has a built in radar detector. It has two lights on each side of the speedo and a switch on the dash for on-off and two different settings. Was this a option Ford had or is it an aftermarket setup?

Ford never offered a radar detector.

I didn't think so but this looks like it came that way from the factory.

Funny how people always ask the questions then when a guy who designed the truck answers the question a different way than they expect they say "but it seems stock"! Read Marks signature he isn't BS'ing you! Simply the facts, like Dragnet.

I'd bet some alarm company installed it if it really looks that good. Could you imagine the beating Ford would take if they offered a radar detector as a stock option?

It is an after market install unit, When a few states outlawed use of radar detectors (primarly Virginia who has had them outlawed since their invention), some of the detector manufacturers came out with detectors that could be installed and hidden with a cut off switch on the power line because a radar detector detector can pick up any radar unit if it is still recieving power even though it is turned off.
No auto manufacturer would factory install such a thing because the manufacturers would be liable for serious fines by those states that outlaw use of radar detectors.

Sounds like a sweet setup. I'd love to have one, but I generally run kinda slow whatching those MPG's.

Ha Ha! Same here, my radar detector is a V10 and an empty wallet. Together they keep me from speeding.

Well hotroddsl, I saw Marks signature and knew that he knew what he was talking about. This site is for guy's to help each other out not bash a guy for wording a response in a way thats not to your liking! What I meant by the response" but it seems stock" was that who ever did put it in it looks like it came that way from the factory. This must of had a new gauge cluster put in for the led lights that flash reed when radar is detected.

I don't see any bashing. Maybe a few things possibly taken out of context, but no bashing. Let's keep it civil folks. We're all here to try to help each other.

Sorry I offended you that was not my intent! It really was that I find Marks answers to be ^so direct and to the point! Very much like dragnet, and usually the OP's will argue how some one told them oe how it looks like it's stock when he worked on the designs and knows how they are supposed to be or did come, there are other former Ford engineers on here and the same thing happens to them, ^so please don't take it personal I was referring to posters in general not nesseceraly just your self, and really did not maen to offend you I am sorry! And I think Monty is too, or he may be looking at a cat I'm not sure but let's just say he is!

Saving fuel was major reason why I started carrying my radar detector in the truck. I never speed with engine on, since flatbed driven over 70 mph sucks fuel with no mercy, but I don't like to wear out my brakes on our long grades just to burn fuel at the bottom of the hill.
My truck on neutral can reach 85 mph and I have court signed paper to prove it

There are systems like this made I think by Cobra I could be wrong with the brand but I have seen them in sports cars like porsche's. They have sensors in the front and back of the car usually in the bumper and just a couple of lights on the dash. If this is what you have sweet!! I'm sure they are not cheap! Any pics of the dash lights you have?
