Well I started my restore this weekend. I will post progess notes and pics in my gallery as it comes along. I will also be asking for advice on alot of stuff, I going to try to keep all questions in the progess thread.
Gallery udated with 4/6/08 pics.
I do have a few questions
1. I found a gas tank to replace my busted side tank. there is alittle difference. Can I just plug the extra line?
OLD
New
2. Does the driveshaft look right?
Today was a interesting day. Got everything ready to remove the bed off the truck. Last piece I wanted to take off before remove the bed was the rear bumber. After removing the bolts and not being able to remove it I notice someome had welded the bumber to the bracket and the brackets to the frame. Luckly the sucked at welded, was able to take a sledge to the bumber to brake the welds lose.
Removing the bed wasnt to bad. came up with a plan and it worked. Lifted each side up and place a 2x4 on the main frame. Then removed rear tires and lowered the truck down onto supports. Grabed ahold of the rear of the bed a pulled right off to the table that was waiting to hold it. (in one of the pics a quad is parked by my truck, it was not used to pull the bed)
Please take a look and let me know if you see any thing that stands out to your that your would recommend I replace.
I looked at the picture in your gallery that 2nd hole is a gas filler neck vent. To be honest I don't know if it would be ok to to plug it off.
No not that one. There is a 1/4 hose above the filler and vent necks. I believe it was for emissions. I know you can get emission tanks and non-emission tanks.
Well this week end I removed the front cap and took the cab off. Pulled the motor, I will save the tranny for later in the week or next week end.
Here are some pics.
Alot more pics in the gallery.
Found out this weeked the someone had butchered the wiring. Now that its apart that I can take a close look I have to see if I going to need to rewire the truck.
Next step is to finish striping the frame then sandblast it. Hopefully that will be done next weeked.
Found it in a salvage yard around here, they had about 8 trucks but only one with a side tank. Look under it and the tank was gone, walk around to see what else might be usefull and found it in a bed sitting off to the side covered up by a bunch of twisted up tin covering it.
I had been looking for one for the last 8 years, I have see a few come and go on Ebay but they wanted $200 + $75 dollars for shiping.
Guess I got lucking finding this one and it only cost me alittle.
So far the only major body work I know of is the passenger floor pan is rusted, only acouple of holes all the way through. Stange thing is it is all rusted from the inside, this is no rust on the outside of the floor pad.
So there is 3 possiblities that I can think of
1. Heater has leak.
2. Dealer installed AC discharge line leak.
3. My survey crew spilt their coffee on the floor everyday. This for a fact happened alot. We use this truck as our main survey truck for 6 years.
