I finally got my truck started a couple of month ago. The timing was a problem. Now whenever i try to rev the truck it just bogs down. I check the carb and saw it was getting good streams of fuel. I think the problem is with the timing since the distributor has to be turned all the way counter-clockwise just to be able to start. I thought that the distributor shouldn't have to be turned that much 1 way or the other just to start. Could the timing be my problem or is there somthing more too it? Thank for reading.
If the plug wires were ordered to a 302, odds are the PO had the distributor out also. Like 312 says, you'll need to pull it out, rotate it, and put it back in. Time it with a light to spec (4 degrees BTDC I would guess) and see what that gets you. Someone could have put a new timing chain on wrong or the damper could have moved, so it could still be off.
