I'm interested to hear this 'cause I need to rebuild mine. Front seal is leaking and if I pull it out I'm doing the whole thing.

Jim, you might take a look at the "CURE" it assists in extending the life of the tranny by eliminating the slippage which reduces heat and we all know that heat is a killer of our trannys

Several of us are using the CURE including me and I personally endorse this product as it made my truck like new. I am one happy camper with it.
Enough about my feelings. Go to: The Ford Transmission Cure for shift flair problems

It will have you do a couple of tests so that you can ascertain whether or not you feel the the CURE would be of a benefit. It's an easy install.

If you have worn out parts, broken parts or your tranny is just toast and you need an overhaul, this unit will be of no benefit to you until such time after the rebuild.

Hope this helps,

Rog

I don't think that I know those answers, perhaps TJ or MadVan or one of the other several gurus that lurk in the shadows will come on board and give their view points and experience.

I do recall C00mhunter warning NOT to use his mod with a shift kit.

puting a shift kit with my mod is bad, my mod is a shift kit so you would be doubling the process.

using my mod with "the cure" would be great though, the 2 combined would be great since they address different issues and would interact great together.

i personally dont like to "crank up" the line pressure, its hard on the seals and doesnt address the physical reasons for the crappy shifts. it hides the overall problem vs fixing it.

c00n

With the way you mod the VB which modulator is in your VB?
I ask this do to the change over of the valve and will make a difference in shift feel. I do not remember the year of the changeover.

OP
There are some other things that can/should be done for full time lube and cooling of trans. As c00n has stated. The cure is for the TC and the VB mods are for the shift apply

If pulling trans to install a triple disk. I would also mod the pump at that time for the TC lockup.

If it has the OEM valve (in 97), it should have a .372
The early valve is .331
