S-10 subframe?

Hey everybody, I'm new to this forum but not to Ford trucks. I found a 56' F100 for sale and went to look at it. He has taken the whole front clip from an S-10 and added it to the 56 frame. It looks good, but has anybody seen this or heard of this being done before? I want to find another 56, but I'm wondering if this is going to be more trouble than it's worth going back together. He has also added the rear leafs/rear end from the S-10. Thanks for any help.

Billy

WELCOME! Its kinda hard to see what it looks like without any pics! There are many front clips that people have done. Im no expert but there are many here that can guide you the right way. I always wonder what if someone messed up installing a clip and just sold it off instead of the right repair. I know that most will say take a stock frame and work the suspension than to swap out the frame for another kind. Well good luck!

I assume the front sheet metal is not installed. Unless the owner agrees to install it so you can see what it looks like and be sure it will still fit I'd pass. S-10's are also very narrow. I'd check to be sure it's not too narrow for the truck. Are you sure he didn't use the whole frame?

Billy, don't know about front but I used a 84 s10 rear leaf and love it on my 51. rear hangers are under frame, leafs are about 7" longer, rides great, flip rear on top of springs, no "c" notch needed, I did use a camaro rear housing.

Yeah, I think I'm gonna have to pass on it. It was just the front clip, I could see where it was welded, and the rear was definitely the real 56 frame. I thought it looked a little narrow myself.. he had the front sheet metal loosely installed, and the wheels looked like they were set way in. Looks like I'll have to keep looking.. thanks for all the help!

Hi, for whatever its worth (nothing) I had considered this modification in some form and came to the same conclusion as you, that the S10 was too narrow. I think that homade had to change the diff to a Camaro is confirmation of this .

Yea, I had the whole 93 Z28 and used front suspension, motor, trans, rear so everything from frame is all the same, easier to find parts for that way plus 4 wheel disc. Ofcourse it had a lot to do with the fact I already had the Z, did I say it was cheap?
