[quote=billy12360;6000566]ii was hoping i could maybe find out how to get the doors and ignition keyed the same... cause that would be nice to have...

best I can recall my '64 to '66 trucks took same keys for doors and ignition,I lost a key for one truck and had to pull right door lock to get lock number
I then had four trucks keyed the same
I have not been able to locate a locksmith with the tools or experience to make duplicate keys in my area. Not sure if it's an 'ole school' kinda thing, if there is no lock assembly code they don't know where to begin. Later model vehicles now have a replacement key number somewhere on the vehicle.
IMHO, suggest purchasing the key kit which includes the locks, and keys for both the doors and ign., high end cost for the kits run around $50, suspect it will cost an additional $20 for the switch. If memory serves me, and in most cases not, as a young man, $75 was at times not in the budget. $40 may be able to get both ign. assembly and switch, $20 if careful and able to save the switch. You can always purchase locks and keys for the doors later.

If recall, Billy mentioned the keys for the doors and ign. are different. It's been so long ago my 65 had the original door and ign. key assembies, I can't remember, it would certainly make duplicating a key lot simpler.
I find it difficult to believe there is no locksmith service in your area that will come out and make you a key. I have seen a fairly new guy with a blank and file make a key in less than 5 minutes.
Lock cylinders can be picked up at most any parts house and will come with new keys. I have drilled the locks and gotten the old one out and put a new one in. You need to take your time when doing this because if you are careless and reckless you can over drill and ruin the back area. You have to cut to the edge of the keeper but not go through it or your new cylinder wont stay in.
Once you have the ign. fixed a locksmith can change the pins in the door locks and you can have one key fits all.

see the thing about not being able to get a lock smith to my door that will make me a key is... im about 35 miles from the closest form civilization of any kind other then a town of about 1500 people... ive called all the lock smiths in the town thats 35 miles away... and either they dont want to drive to darrington, or they dont have the know how on doing it...
i will go with drilling the ign. it wont be the first time ive done it. i seem to loose keys... lost the keys to a 1984 labaron, and just drilled the ignition and was using a pair of needle nose to start it before i killed it... done on a few other cars to....
as far as the guy mentioning when he was younger and 75 dollars being a bit of money... inflation... inflation... inflation... dollar isnt worth as much as it was even 18 years ago....
Not completely on topic, but I've had duplicate keys made for my truck at the local hardware store. I have different keys for my doors and ignition on my 66.
As far as the "only a certain number of keys" story goes, I think that may be true for Fords when they went to the square ignition/round door keys in 67 or so. My friend had an old 77 Econoline in high school, and the key would start this girls 68 Mustang. Quite a few times we'd go out to the parking lot and move her car way over to the other side before she figured it out...

yea... the problem with the top half of this is... theres no key in my possesion to duplicate
Billy, You will get through this, no doubt, but I hope that you learn from it and not let the sun set on your butt without having a spare key to everything you own that requires one.
I bought a brand new complete set with an ignition and 2 door locks (all keyed alike, of course), on ebay for about $45. Since you have the ignition out, that's what I would do!
Good Luck!

its not the first time ive done this though.... my mom actually does the same thing... but she got tired of having to have some one slim jim her doors so she had like 4 sets of keys made... one she clips on to her belt loop as soon as she wakes up and gets dressed... the other she gave to the local cop...[he was the one that would slimjim the door for her] one to her boyfriend... and one she keeps on the normal key ring... but basically since i just bought the truck not to long ago... and havent really had a chance to drive it... i havent really thought about getting a spare or 2 made...
after i get everything re done i will pay to have 2 extra sets made... one for my moms house and one for my dads house... just in case... lol
One time I lost the keys to my old 77 Cutlass. My buddy was a locksmith so when I called him, he reset my tumblers to use a BLANK KEY as a joke. He said that if I ever lost them again, just go to walmart and buy a GM blank and I'd be back in business. Some joke, I left it that way! It was great (as long as nobody else knew)!!!
If you have the ignition out take it and the door lock to the locksmith and he can make the key for you and can rekey the ignition to match the doors. although the ebay 45 dollar set might be the cheapest way to go.
