Does anyone know what the equivalent filter is for the Baldwin 5134 at Autozone, Checker, Pepboys, Walmart, etc? I have been looking online this morning and have had no luck. Thank you.
It is unlikely that you will find coolant filters at your basic local auto parts store. You would have better luck at a medium/heavy truck dealers parts counter or a medium/heavy truck parts supply store.
Have you tried Baldwin's dealer locator which can be found on the left side of the homepage to see if there is anyplace close to you?
Thank you! There are a couple of Baldwin dealers in Las Vegas I can check out. I would prefer to purchase locally to avoid the shipping charges online. Thanks again.
I have some extra baldwin filters I would like to get rid of, but they are the shorter version of the 5134 they are the 5089, pm me if your interested!
I have heard some good things about Hastings in the past, but you probably need to make sure it is a filter made for coolant or water based applications. what model number?

Slowmans - why are you getting rid of the 5089's??? I just decided to go to these.
I just changed out my filter; I poured the coolant into a funnel lined with a coffee filter and WOW it was a dark brown muddy liquid. I ended up having to pour the coolant out of the funnel because it was plugged up with all the dirt/sand. I think I went too long before changing it the first time (about 2,000 miles). Question - How the heck do you guy's cut open the filter housing? I can't wait to see what that looks like inside.

Hey JMASKEW - are you using filters with supplemental coolant additives (SCA's)? If so, you shouldn't. The folks at Dieselsite told me that what you should get out is particles. If you are getting "mud" then they said it indicates that you are probably dropping some of the additives out of solution. Some filters come w/ extra additives in them - these are the ones to avoid.
Edit:
Specifically ask for "non-charged" filters. These are the ones without the timed-release tablets.
I told the guy behind the counter at APC (Auto Parts Company) to cross reference the Baldwin filter that i got with the kit and when he handed me the filter i asked him to make sure it was the non-charged one which it was. Its raining cats and dogs outside, so i aint gonna attempt to get the part number tonight

The filter I just removed was the Baldwin BW5134 that came with the kit. It is a non-charged filter. The one I purchased today is also non charged, I think my engine is full of sand. Thanks for the post.
The "crud" is actually particles... a lot of them. I'll post pictures this weekend when I open the filter (if I can get it open).
