I am having a klank in the drive train under deceleration. Happens around 10-20 mph. I have ha dthe following done and still the same Klank
New Rear Drive shaft
New Ujoints (2times)
Slip Yolk serviced.
New Gears
New Carrier Bearings
New Seals
I was told by one of te driveline people that it could be the transfer case chain? Has anyone heard of that being an issue The X has 97K miles
The clank has always been there just started really pissing me off....I think its the slip yolk.....it souns like its coming from right under the center of the truck..
Gee I wonder were I coould have thought up that sig......
Is it when you brake? I get the same thing when I am decelerating, around the same speed while under braking. I have found that some people on this board had the same problem and it was ball joints.
Yes it is mostly when braking but not always, I just had the ball joints replaced but it did not resolve the klank.. I really feel its metal on metal some where in the middle of the truck.... I am going to regrease the slip yolk and see if thats it..
OK I found out what the clank was. During braking the pads would shift up and hit the top of the caliper. I replaced the hardware and serviced the brakes and wala no more clank/klunk. Even though it sounded like it was under the truck it was the drivers side brake hardware........
I wonder if that was the case with mine. I had completed a knuckle seal change on the driver side before I heard this noise. Never thought about the brake hardware, especially now that the sound has gone away on its own, which is what led me to look at everything and found bad ball joints. Still could be what you found as well, who knows. How did you find this?

It took a while to find after trying different stopping types. In gear out of gear, in reverse.,, slow pedal then panic stop. Also I replaced every blessed part under the truck..Ball Joings. u joints, drive shaft tube, slip yoke service. Really had nothing else left... and this was the cheapest to fix...

Exactly what is it that you replaced? Pads? I'm having the same sound under braking. Any pics of what you're referring to?
Sorry no pics as I had the work done by the local repair shop. The replaced the springs that hold the pads in the caliper.
The problems was once enough ofrce was applied to the braked the pads would shift up and hit the caliper and make that klank sound.
Simple and easy...but drove me nutz for weeks
Here is what I have going on with mine, see what ya'll think.... I park in my driveway with the tail towards the house on a very slight incline. No reason to set the e-brake. I start the truck, shift to drive roll 15 feet asI straighten out on the road and as I push the accelerator I have a clunk underneath. It feels like a slipping in the drivetrain somwhere....almost like the gears have gotten ahead of the driveshaft. That is the only time it does it.
Only had the truck 2 months. Will have it looked at when I go to buy the extended drivetrain warranty in 3000 miles. I think I read somewhere that somebody replaced the ujoints and added a zert fitting to regularly grease it but also to the yolk. Not sure where i read that in here.
Yes you can change the U-joints out for a serviceable type. I put in a stronger aftermarket one due to the loads that I tow. Since the parts are only 30-50 dollars its safe insurance.
