Chip or Programmer what difference
Chip or Programmer what difference
What are they doing differently. I have seen the Edge Evolution and it was pretty easy to use. Are they good, do they work? How do they work? How do chips work?
How do chips install?
What are stacked chips? Is that for multiple selections like the DP tuner.
What are other good error scanners if you just get a chip?
How are the chips installed? Is are hard?
Thanks

Did not get a chip yet but when I do I will probably keep my edge evolution for reading codes and data stream. From what I have heard good scanners can be a bit pricey so If you got the edge and it will get you by you might as well keep it till the day comes when you might need something else.
a chip physicaly plugs into the PCM of the vehicle and over rides it, thus the "chip" is the new PCM for the truck, stays in all the time has 4 or 6 settings and is changable on the fly via a **** on the dash. can not read trouble codes with a chip. once your done with it you can remove it and resell it if you want.
a Programer plugs into the data port under the dash, you turn the key on, get a few "power" choices and then turn key off and remove from plug. must stop and do over if you want to change programs. some programers can read codes. alot of programers are vin locked so you cant reuse them on another vehicle unless the stock program is returned to the first vehicle.
as for the milage if you keep your foot out of the throttle you will get better mileage. if you like the new power your mileage will prolly go down.

Another twist on mileage is that with the new found power you don't have to push as hard on the "Skinny" pedal to get you up to speed thusly you are not using as much fuel.
Every time i increased the cc's on my Harley's the gas mileage went up just for that reason....I didn't have to screw it on as much to reach cruising speed.
