I have a 2001 f250 4x4 42,000 miles.Looks like i need new ball joints all 4 plus a steering dampner per my mechanic??? the lowest price i got for everything parts, labor, tax is $1060.00 Does that sound about right?I knew it was not going to be cheap!
I got the ball joint replacement priced in Georgia at the repair facility my family and I have used for years and they said about $900. I was TDY in Oklahoma with the military and went to the 4 wheel drive shop in Oklahoma City and they priced it at about $500(parts, labor, and tax). I, of course, got it done in OK City. The ball joints are about $40 - $60 each, depending on the brand and whether it is an upper or lower and the rest of the cost was labor, tax, and shop fees. As for the steering dampner, if you are talking about the steering stabilizer, (it looks like a shock absorber and is mounted parallel on the front axle) I called superlift and ordered 2 for about $30 or $40 each. I have a lift on my truck, so I needed two. The stabilizer is VERY easy to replace, and if you have a socket set, you can do it and save yourself around a half hour in labor costs. BTW, I called probably 10 shops in GA and I got prices around $800 - $1200. In OK City, the average price was around $600. Hope this helps.
