Well bought a F-150 on ebay big mistake first thing I had to do replace the trans big chunks of metal in the pan. Now I'm having engine problems I have a 91 F-150 which needs a new distributer called the dealer and the dealer is telling me the E4ZE-12131-AA distributer is a 1984 casting. So now I'm really confused. Can anyone tell me how to know for sure what year motor I have
I'm hoping they just swaped the distributer with the wrong one yet I am going to rebuild from the ground up and want to make sure it gets done right this time. Is there a casting on the block to tell me what motor I have? If so where should I look for it?
First thing you got to do is identify the motor.
Is it an I6 or V8
If V8 is it 5.0 or 5.8?
Carb or EFI?
Once you know this just order a distributor for that motor. The casting number doesn't tell you anything besides the first year it was used, and it could have been used for many years.
I know it is a V-8 EFI 5.0 is there a way to find out if someone swapped the motor or if it is the original motor for this truck? I am being told the distributer is either cast iron gear or steel gear. No one can tell me for sure.
The only I6 in this body style of trucks (and back to at least the 71+ models) is the 300ci.
Just FYI the 240 was the base engine thru 1974. The 300 was optional starting in 1965 and became the standard engine in 1975. The 300 was used thru the 1996 model year.
If you need to know any other specs (within reason) about your new truck, look up a vin decoder, supposing that it wasnt removed or otherwise tampered with...
