Question Install C B Radio

Hi
I would like to install a CB radio in my '97 F-250 but I've herd the PCM in the Power stroke might be damaged by doing so. This sounds like just dealership marketing tactics because I've seen CB antennas on these trucks. Is there a correct way to install a CB in my truck?

Thanks
P.S. I went today to get the cam position sensor replaced at a ford dealer and they didn't try to sell me anything else

I have a CB in my truck with no problems. My power and ground are tied in with my trailer brake controller. Most recommend to go straight to the battery for power and ground. I have dual antenna's behind the cab bolted to the tool box.

I also just installed a CB in my truck last month and I have no probs whatsoever.
I used a fuse tap and went through the fuse box instead of right to the battery (I can sill use it w/out the truck being on too)

That's how I'd like to install a CB.

1) What fuse did you tap into?
2) Where did you mount your antenna?
3) Did you have to do any drilling to run the antenna cable into the cab?

1) I went into the "Power Point" fuse... I had it running through the the brakes but it began to mess w/my ABS (the light started flashing and I lost power brakes but still had normal and all problems went away after I moved the tap)
2) I bought a magnetic mount until I found the best location for the antenna.... then I will but a permanent mount.
3) no drilling yet since its just a magnetic mount. If I had to guess I will be mounting in either on the roof or toolbox.
On the passenger side (maybe drivers side too but I only checked passenger side) of the cab in the bottom back corner, there should be a plastic plug/tab. I hear most folks find them pretty handy to route cabling...I am going to use them too. I thought I had some pictures, I will try and find em and post.

Its not letting me add pictures right now.. I will try later tonight

i think i ran both my (2004's) and my brother's 95 to the power pt. fuse. i didn't have to drill holes for my duals, but i think my bro's needed a hole. his single is mounted on the driver side of the headache rack.

I used a fuse tap and grounded to body. I have dual antennas on the outside of the mirrors. I ran the wires thru the vent window. No drilling. See my sig for antannae brackets.

I have a walkie talkie type that I've boosted to about 13W on full power and it doesn't interfere with anything on the truck. I plug into the aux power jack for power and have a small (~2ft) center loaded whip mounted on the drivers side mirror frame. I ran the antenna coax around the front of the door by the vent at a spot where it doesn't crimp. Seems to get out pretty good with SWR no higher than 1.5 across the 40ch band.

Radio in Truck

I have a 70 watt 2-meter band HAM radio in my truck that has been there for years. I use it all the time at full power with no damage to the PCM. I ran the power leads all the way to the battery to get enough juice to push a full 70 watts (almost 6 AMPS) without overloading any of my fuses. My antenna is mounted on the driver's side with a hood mount that bolts down slightly under the hood and is bent so the hood closes next to it without contact. This mount-point is about 12 inches away from the PCM.

A CB radio works near the 10 or 11 meter radio band (I think) and are ususally at much less power, I can't imagine that this would damage the PCM if my 70 watts doesn't.

i put the cb where the ash tay was and used the cig lighter for power and ground. the antenna was on the roof and the cable came inside the truck through the rubber plug behind the left rear seat on the floor board.
