So I am in the process of replacing the manual hubs on my 95 I6. I pulled the passenger side hub and replaced it in about an hour. I move over to my driver side hub and realize that it is different. My passenger side had 6 bolts on it and my driver side had 3 bolts. I have read about the 3 bolt auto hubs so I went back and read the instructions that came with the Warn Premium Hubs and it talked about needing the 21720 kit if you were replacing the auto hubs. This was not a auto hub so I pulled it.
Notice that it has 3 bolts and it is a manual. So when I pulled the cover I noticed that it had 6 bolt holes which mad me wonder a little about if it really was a 6 bolt with a different cover.
Then I went to pull the snap ring. Well, there was no snap ring or even any room to get a snap ring in there.
I attempted to put the Warn hub in and it would not go in far enough to get the outer ring or snap ring on. So I came to FTE and started reading. That is when I read about the spacers that are held in with the C clip so I looked for that and it was there. http://mersh.com/kayak/pictures/driverhub/sspacerson.JPG
Even though the old hub is bigger than the Warn, it is not solid on the back side so it slides up around the spindle nut area and the Warn just hits it and stops.
So can somebody tell me what am I supposed to do here?
I changed the hubs in my 96 F250 and you do need the kit you were talking about. Its a nut kit because the axle nuts that are on it are a hex and the new nuts are round which lets the new hub slide in far enough.
If you look at the picture of where my locknut or what ever you call that piece and look at number 14 in the image below, I don't think it is the same part.
If you look at the point I am at, I don't see it in that blowup.
.......here's a DEFINITE_hint = the picture you are showing with part's #11,12, 13, & 14 are indeed the " WARN's_CONVERSION KIT " stuff, for which that link/Thread i have shown you is about's & IT is NOT for showing in your picture of your hub assembly ! ! ! ....you CAN take a look at/in my Gallery Album's and ya just might see a picture or 2 of showing WHAT you have there and WHAT your going to need to have = correct'd/replacement/change of.......
....{ your picture of your hub is showing the "LockRing Key" in the "Square_Notch-slot" on the spindle}....WHICH you can see for in my Gallery Album's_ in the =Other Pic's 4 Help= album....and i believe that pic's #2, 5, & 6 ...should help you out and see more clearly . . . . .
HOPEFULLY , i have explain'd thing's a bit better and to have help'd ya out even.......
MY ANSWER = i basically see from your picture of this particular Hub assembly; it is showing of a Bearing NUT and LockRing FROM an Auto Hub assembly ! ! ! ! ! ....like i said>>>>>MY Opinion of and Answer to your problem for here......
{...for me changing over to WARN Prem.Manual's from Auto hub's, they would more look like my picture's of # 5 & #6 being all-in-one of a HUB picture assembly...}
You say that I am showing a bearing nut and lockring. In the illustration in your photos, I am guessing it is called a cam assembly. What exactly is the next part that I have to remove and how do I remove it?
Will the Mile Marker Hub conversion kit that AutoZone sells work the same as the Warn?
.......no, the CamAssembly is the part which is contain'd with the Auto Hub's....... your picture for showing on this thread "LOOK's" like a "LockRing" in that square_cutout of your spindle ! after picking that off/out, then you would need a Hex_type Socket for which is also showing in that album of pic's ..... That #2 picture IS of an Auto_Type Hub of it's content's & assembly of ......... Pretty much IF you were to make one picture, You would need to put #5 & #6 picture (From my Gallery_Album = other pic's 4 help of...) and that is how Manual Hub's_content's are consist'd of; taking note: some Hub assemblies will NOT re-use the 3 different washer/spacer's and the "c_clip" ring ! ! ....... that i can concurr for on my 96' rigg of my sig's, and, also, was told by the WARN Rep when i called about's that problem i WAS having when i changed over........
. . . . Basically, I DID purchase and replaced that Bearing Nut & the LockRing with that conversion kit which consist's of the thicker Bearing Nut with the pin on one side, then the washer with the pin_hole's for alignment of, then the other Nut (Jam-Nut)........this is setup by: FIRST: you torque 2 spec's the first NUT with the Special 4 lug Spanner socket; SECOND: then apply the washer ring to match the pin & groove; THIRD: then you are to apply the second NUT and it's specified torque; .......skipp the 3 washer's & C_clip, just place on the HUB assembly.......... then the outer_large snap_ring into the Hub's groove;.......then there is this Special "C"_clip for which goes onto the goove of the Shaft of the axle ! ! !{this pretty much comes with the WARN HUB kit's, that i know of}.... once all this is assemble'd attach the cap with it's O-ring and it's 6 screw's....HAND tighten'd only...........REALLY better and much easier as well as simple assembly and all, just gotta remember it is noted that you should repack wheel bearing's (inner & outer) at around every 25 to 30 thous. mile check..............I do mine like once a year because of the oversize'd wheel & tire's . . . . .
..........Will the Mile Marker Hub conversion kit that AutoZone sells work the same as the Warn?
thanks,
michael
. . . . . that i do NOT know, you should ask the guy at where you are getting them from; BUT, i would NOT mix brand's of item's.......this i am saying because i have NO idea WHAT your Hub's "Make" are. What i am saying is you shouldn't put MileMarker Spindle Nut Conversion Kit's with Warn Manual Hub's, or visa versa; get what i mean????.......hope that made sense.........
Thanks for the help mr. Charles. That clears things up alot.
Now I need to find a conversion kit.
351Slug, not sure why FTE is redirecting my links to ebay. It is not your computer, it is FTE doing it. If you copy and paste the links in your browser they work fine. Something is up with FTE redirector. I noticed it a while back with somebody else's links a couple of weeks ago, but it sent me to another site, not ebay.
