toy hauler question

hi ,all My question is about gas smell in a toy hauler with out the seperate garage, my wife doesn't think you could get rid of the smell if you leaked any fuel, does any one have any experience with these units.

Unfortunately, she's right; both my kids in SoCal have toy boxes for their Quads, and it seems the gas smell has seeped into flooring/curtains/mattresses even though they're very careful about buttoning up the fuel tanks when transporting 'em.

Welcome to FTE!

WELCOME TO FTE.

I have a Toy hauler, and only transport the atv's in it.

I do not store them in it because of just what you mention.

I have a garage in my TH but I understand the situation. I have 2 beds in the garage and the gas/oil smell would get into the mattresses and sleeping bags I kept there. I tried plastic covers for the mattresses but that makes the bed noisy when using it for sleeping. I now keep the sleeping bags in the main "room". Fabreeze seems to help. We use our garage for a room almost every time we camp. We store a rhino in the garage all the time. When I first open the door to the garage after getting it out of storage the gas smell is heavy. One last tip...I installed the maxair covers on the 2 roof vents in the garage and I keep them open all the time (in storage too). I also occasionally keep the two vents open near the bottom of the rear of the garage while in storage.

I have a TH with a separate garage and have never had a problem with it. When I had one without a separate garage I didn't notice it either. Will you store your toys in there or just transport them? As long as carburetors are drained and fuel tanks shut off (which should be done regardless for storage) and fuel cans are secure and have vents and caps closed, I don't think it's an issue. I don't store toys in there normally, but there have been a few times when we were going out again the next weekend and left them in there, in that case you should leave a vent open just in case as DesertRider said. IDK if it makes a difference but we use ours quite often so it's aired out and open a lot, it may be different if you store it for long periods of time.

Welcome to FTE, hope this helps!

My toyhauler has external fuel tanks (1 75gal and 1 50gal) the rear section also has a fueling station to pump gas just like pumping fuel into your truck.

I have a Weekend Warrior Full Throttle 40' 5th wheel. There is no fuel at all inside the garage or living quarters.

That's not so bad, having had both types I prefer the one with the garage. Not only is it nice for the toys but it also serves as a 'mud room' for the kids, pets, drunken buddies, etc., saving wear and tear on your interior, an indoor work space if you need to do any repairs while you're out without having to fold up the couches and kick everyone outside, and if you do have company (or kids ) there's usually a bed back there so you and the wife will have some privacy. We have a 2003 Wanderer 38' 5er with 30 gal. onboard fueling station and generator, 1 slide out and screen/canvas door for the back. We can fit 2 fullsize quads and 2 dirt bikes with room to spare, even the jetski and trailer if you leave the door open. We bought it used last year for $18,000, it was just too big for the former owners to handle. Just look around, there's some good deals to be had without taking the depreciation on a brand new model.

I have a 40' TH and never noticed the gas smell at all. I think it depends on how long the things are left in the trailer. If you have them in there when you are on the road shouldn't be a problem but if you use it to store them when not in use you will prob smell the smell.
