My new Bumper Pull toy hauler has greater tongue weight than my last toy hauler 1550 lbs even thought my last toy hauler had a greater gross wieght .
Unfortunately I used the factory specs on TW 1000lbs to buy my current Round Bar WDH. I am not seeing round bar WDH's over 14000lbs and Trunnion type WDH become very expensive over 15000 lbs double the cost for a 17000lb .
So, I think I am going for the Trunnion WDH rated at 15000lbs. My question the Trunnion type WDH come either as "pinned" or not "pinned" What's the benefit of a pinned hitch over a not pinned hitch?
Its a 2017 Dutchman Coleman Lantern Series 300tq. The scales have me at 1550lbs of tongue weight and 9400lbs of gross trailer weight. Which is just under the 10000lb gross rating. At the time of weighing I was using a 10000lb WDH. My new in the mail 15000lb hitch should shift a little more of that TW to the truck and trailer.
That's pretty surprising to me that the TW is so high. Is that weight with the Harley? Any idea how much TW with a empty garage?
I weighed the trailer when it was new and empty on the way home from the dealer. The truck was not loaded and WDH was underrated at 10,000lbs. The tongue weight was 1700lbs.... Keep in mind that the OEM tongue weight specs says 1000lbs.

Those are some unusual numbers. Maybe their 1,000 lbs was with cargo but no water? Toy haulers seem to be tongue heavy pigs but 1,700 lbs is a lot!

Pretty wild huh, I bet that had you scratching your head.
I just remembered that that there was a full 60 gallons of water in the trailer when I picked it up new at the dealer. The fresh water tank is about the middle of the trailer so some of that weight got transferred to the tongue for sure. I typically don't tow with that kind of water it was left in after the pdi.
My last 30' Bumper Pull toy hauler had a higher gross weight of 13000lbs and the tongue weight was 1350 loaded which is about right...This one seems to have some serious tongue weight. I am sure they fudge on the tongue weight specs to try and convince those half ton owners they can pull it. I tried to convince the wife that I needed another bike to off set the tongue weight but she did not buy it...
For what it's worth, if you don't already have a class 5 hitch on the truck now is the time. Unless you want to be just another SD on the side of the road with a busted receiver.

I agree I upgraded the hitch to 17000 lbs years ago and at the time I thought it was a lot!
That really does seem like a high TW for that trailer's total weight. I know THs tend to be very tongue heavy, our old 11k GVW 31' TH had a 1450 TW when loaded for a camping trip with a light-ish garage load that had the trailer at 9500lbs.
Was the empty trailer TW of 1700 and loaded TW of 1550 the total extra load on the rear axle or did you already subtract any lost weight from the front axle off the total rear axle weight added?
