Front End Camber Questions

Hello All,

I've got '93 F150 with a saggy front end. While this type of camber would make any NASCAR crew chief happy, it's not working for me!

I'm planning on replacing the ball joints, as they're certainly in need of repair. Will this aid in the saginess, or am in need of new springs/shocks as well? Am I correct to believe that there is a camber adjustment nut on top of the upper ball joint? If so, would that buy me some positive camber to offset its current saginess?

Thank you all in advance for any info you can pass along!

Saginess ????? Just doesn't go with castor or camber

Of course it raises and lowers it a bit,..........but just a bit unless it's real severe.

I thought there was a camber bushing on the top ball joint that was available for different degrees, like if you lift or lower our trucks?

Adjustable bushings are available aftermarket.
Any decent alignment shop should be able to install them. But it means a full front end job and that's big $.
(even more on a 4X4)

IMO, get some professional advice.

I don't know why anyone in their right mind would go to a junkyard and pull and install a 15 year old front end in their truck.
Then expect it to be straight.

If the tires are splaying out at the bottoms that is called negative camber. That is desireable for the Nascar types.

It all works together.....The springs , the pivot arm Bushings, ball joints and yes the camber bushings.
On the older trucks like the (My "new" 1982) F350 2wd the springs and pivot arm bushings set the camber of the wheels King Pin Knuckles, and wheels. theres no camber bushings for the king pin knuckles that I have found yet.

Heres some of my recent experiance with the suspensions

If the tires are spreading on the bottom , more then likely most of your problem is going to be with the lower ball joints and or Axle Pivot Arm Bushings.

I spent $70 with sears just for 3 oversized sockets to get those pivot arm bushings out and in. I beat them out and in, with a 2 sockets ,and a 2lb mall hammer.
She rode like new..........Till I went after this F350 suspension swap I'm doing presently.

well, my 92 f150 (2x4) was the same way. I replaced the springs with heavy duty springs (will give you minor lift), new heavy duty shocks, and axle pivot bushings. That gave it almost all it needs. But you might end up like me and find out your ball joints are shot. their around 30$ lower and 20$ or so upper. Thats parts not labor. with labor if you have someone else do it your looking at about 130 per side for only lower. mine rides like almost new with the things i have already done to it. mine had only about an inch or so from the wheel to fender, mine sagged alot. so, those are pretty much the things to look at to correct this problem. pricewise, at autozone, ive spent estimated under 300 or so (axle pivot bushings, shocks, springs, upper and lower ball joints)

But if it sagged alot, you will be looking at a costly front end alignment around 200 or so to correct the camber since it is a non adjustable camber bushing. Shop around, that was the common price, I found one around me for about 100 for a normal alignment and the camber.

sorry for dragging it on, but i like to let people know just about every surprise. Hope it helps!
