What's this nut for?

I'm in the process of cleaning up the inner fenders, filling holes, rust removal and whatnot and came across the welded-on-nut at the front of the right inner fender. Near the battery. What's it for? My truck was in boxes when I got it and I've never seen any other truck with anything mounted there. I've welded up every other unused hole and this one's next on the list unless it's important...? Thanks.

Here's a pic. (not my truck) It looks like a battery mounting point but my tray does not use it.

Is there a big hole behind it? I can't remember right off the top of my head but there's a spot for the bottle jack and a thumb screw for the bracket to hold it in place. That's all I can think of.

no! the jack in on the driver side where the battery goes on the passanger side. the bolt though i think might have something to do with the battery tray, but i took mine out to long ago to remember, iknow that when i take my bolt out nothing happens. and the bold is on the top of the fender/suport thing not the bottom. i would say if yours doesnt have a bolt in it then dont wory about not having the nut.

Cant tell for sure, but my 68 has a bracket from the finder to the battery hold down j-bolt. But it's 2 bolts to the finder.

No big hole behind it. It's a square nut welded to the inner fender with about a 3/8" hole through it. The truck in the photo is a 67 f100 2wd. Maybe a different batt tray in 67? Bill?

On my '67, there's a bent flat metal piece that bolts there and the other end bolts to the closest battery hold down bolt, I guess to make sure the batter doesn't go anywhere. I'll see if I can get a picture when I get home.

I just checked a parts catalog and it claims the original battery hold down is no longer available. That's probably what went there. It's apparently a rare piece so hold on to it.

The nut's history.

Thanks.

It is just a simple piece of sheet shell bent to go from the fender splash guard to the battery hold down. Really simple stuff. My truck (70 F350 RV) still has it. Sorta becomes a pain when R&Ring the battery.

I could grap a picture if you want?

Nah. After finding out what it's for (and that I don't have one) I've scheduled it an appointment with DR. mig tomorrow. Thanks though.
