My Check Engine light came on a few thousand miles back. i unhooked the battery but the light came back on a few thousand miles later and i started to not get quite the same gas mileage. so i went to discount auto parts and they gave me those codes. the guy told me i probably just needed to clean the sensors. i took a look and they didnt look all that dirty or rusted or anything.
so i started reading about these codes online and ive read a few things that said those codes for an OBD-II vehicle means youve got a vacuum leak, or the fuel system is clogged, etc... and that the first place you should look is to see if the PCV elbow/hose has a hole in it or if the MAF sensor is dirty. is that right? what should else should i look for? and where is the mass air flow sensor?
Yeah i would check those 2 things first. The MAF is in the intake..if you take your air filter out and look in the tube you will see it. I would check the PVC hoses first though.
any sensor can give a 171. Check the manifold for leaks, both intake and ex. clean and or replace the plugs MAF ect. check resistant on the plug wires or cops.
