i am building a 351 for an old truck and was wondering about the heads
if i had the heads milled to accept 202intake and 160exh. valves
and a little bit of valve and bowl work would they really be any diff
than the roush heads?
why such big valves for a truck? I think you will get better torque with smaller valves. I was told to keep the velocity up in the exhaust to get more torque.
Matching the cam to the port sizes is a better idea than matching to valve sizes. An example is the 460 Ford; you can put SCJ-size valves in the standard heads, but the stock ports won't flow enough air to make effective use of them. The stock small-block heads (not the various GT40 styles, but standard heads) have intake ports of approx. 125-130cc at best while most aftermarket heads have 170-200cc intake ports. Combine a radical cam with a small port head and you wind up with a motor that has less low-end power than stock yet won't flow enough air on the top-end to take advantage of the cam duration.
