Question Its me again with another problem

Here's the problem, we installed a 65 mustang wiper motor in my 55 truck, but the stupid thing wants to park in the middle of the window. The previous threads on wipers hasn't helped me out at all. I don't see where there is any adjustments on the motor. So all you guys put your heads together and let me know how I can fix this. (Besides rolling the truck out into the field and burning it)

Kathy,

did a quick google on 'wiper not parking right' and got a bunch or returns...play around with google and try different terms...maybe mention Mustang too... heres a link to one wiring diagram... there is also mention of a mechanical switch inside the motor that gets tripped... lots of info out there...

later
John

How does the wiper motor shaft attach to the arms? If its not keyed, but round, you could park the wiper motor, undo the arms and reposition them and put back together, but I'm going to assume this was already thought of. The factory f-100s have bolt to adjust.

Hi Kathy,

I'm looking at the dates here and hoping you got this fixed already. I had the same problem in my 55 F-100 and I know I fixed it, but I don't remember how (It was 30 years ago). If you can't pull off the wiper arms and reinstall them in the correct position when the motor is parked because they then try to swing down onto the cowel in the first phase of motion, then you need to adjust your park switch. I have the procedure here in front of me, but there are three pictures and it would probably be a WHOLE LOT EASIER if I could just copy the pictures and procedures and send them to you. If you can get an exploded picture of your motor here is the procedure.
1. Remove the motor thru bolts and remove the motor cup and armeture.
2. Rotate the output shaft until park switch lower contacts are firmly closed.
3. Rotate the adjusting screw clockwise until the park switch lower contacts just open.
4. Rotate the adjusting screw counter clockwise one full turn.
5. Check the bridge to assure that the legs are contacting the brush plate when the lower contacts are closed.
6. Install the armeture, motor cup and thru bolts.

OBTW, are you sure you have the wiper pivot arms in the correct orientation to the transmission arm? In other words are the wiper arms hooked up 180 degrees out (up instead of down or left instead of right)? Try taking the assembly out and seeing how they work if you turn them around then perhaps you can take the wipers off and repostition them when the motor is parked.

Let me know if you want the pictures from the manual. you can leave me a PM or e-mail direct at: sandidande@***.net.

Good luck,

Dan

Let me know if you have any luck with the motor you are using. I am building a glass 56 and I had purchased a new MidFifty 12v motor, harness, and switch. The OEM wiper brackets will not work with my glass cab, so I will have to use a cable drive system. I also have a couple of 55 electric OEM wiper motors that can be used with a inline resistor. The good news is that I live in Ardmore AL/TN about 45 miles from Cullman and go to Smith Lake often. Let me know if I can help. Good Luck.

Last Chance, thanks for offering your help anyways, but next time your in the area stop by, I can't afford to pay alot for labor, but ask homade about the milk sandwhiches we have to offer!
