Or Propane. My parents have used a propane fired tankless water heater for years. Works great, just make sure you get one thats sized right for you need and climate (if the incoming water is real cold, like northern climates in the winter, smaller ones might not work well enough).

I'm about to go that route at the house I just bought, just have to figure out if I can get NG, or if I have to stick with Propane.
