302 swap

I have a 1969 F-100 with a 302 V8. My question is...with the motor mounts I have, is there any other engine that will fit with out changing the mounts?

351W or a 289. After that you are going to have to swap the frame perches. Not really that hard though.

Thanks! So I could literally just drop a 351w or 289 in without any modifications?

A little bit of exhaust work for the 351w. It's a little bit wider, so a 302 y-pipe won't fit. Headers are different sometimes too. Sometimes they have to curl in a little more to miss the frame and such.

One more question.....would there be a big difference between a 289 and a 302 as far as power?

Stock for stock, the 289 is 12-15 lb/ft lower in torque than a 302.

as weird as it sounds, you will probably get better mpg from 351w than 302. for some reason they are more efficient!! maybe due to torque curve, you don't have to get on it as much??
that said, I would swap in 351w with overdrive transmission.

So put in an overdrive transmission? That would be a 3 speed with overdrive. Are those easy to find these days?

I believe you can still get the truck SROD 4-speed (actually a Top-Loader with an OD 4th gear) from Mustang Village (909-823-7915).

A 351M and/or a 400 will go in on your MOUNT SUPPORTS, using MOUNTS from say a '77-'79 application.
