Tecumseh starter issues

Coulda swore I put this in general non-auto.........
Well, it runs, mows grass quite nicely, starts great with a jump, but it won't go into reverse. It's fairly light, so I just shut the blades off (so I can get out of the seat), push it back, and head off again.
I figure it probably has either too much slop in the linkage or a bad idler gear in the transaxle.
I've rebuilt these before, so if I can find parts it should be ok.
