Dead battery = lucky

Just the other day I was thinking that my three year pld turck is about due for the battery to die. Thought about getting a new one to save the inconvience of having it die somewhere. Anyway, the battery died at 35 months and a few days. Sitting in my driveway, so I just drove the other truck to work. When I got off, I jumped it and drove to Ford Dealer for warranty replacement. I think I will go buy a lottery ticket now. John

You need to read the forum rules about FTE.

The fine print says you're supposed to pick up a lotto ticket for me too.

Congrats on your good fortune John.

i had the same luck, the other day my 3 year old batteries with 78k on them started turning a little slow. i drove to the part store to have them check my batteries and when i came back out with the guy my truck wouldn't start. i had tools in my box changed my batts and off i went.

two trucks ago i had a 96 ranger bought new that i sold to my dad who just sold it on 07 think it was the stock battery. i had no problems with that truck what so ever. he never had any problems with it. except the emergency fuel shut off switch in the pass. floor board. the plug for it came out the bottom and the wiring was unber carpet and would pull loose over time. had to wire tie it up.

Now there's a coincidence. Mine died at 35 months too, just in time for a free warranty replacement. Wonder if maybe they had a bad batch....

I have had several new vehicles over the years and it seems the battery dies on all of them just after warranty runs out. This time it worked out though. Sounds like three years may be the life of the OEM battery. John

This looks like a mistake on Ford's part, those batteries were supposed to last 36 months and a few days.....

I had a '87 F-150 that was just shy of 20 years old when I got rid of it, only put a replacement in it once after nine or ten years. That was some truck......

I thought batteries lasted longer. Just had to have my 06 Vette towed in due to a dead battery. 8,000 miles. You dont just
replace the battery in that car. Dead battery = dead computer
and all the electronics controlling doors, etc.

I bought my 03 SD 7.3 last July, when I took it for the first test drive, the sales manager at the local Ford store told me that the batteries were low and they would be replacing them whether I bought the truck or not. Four or five days after I bought the truck the new batteries went dead. I not only got new batteries, but they replaced the alternator that was the problem in the first place. The Lottery tickets I bought didn't win.
