Either you have an open diff which spins both tires sometimes when conditions are right or a weak limited slip which has enough strength to hold under low traction conditions like mud but won't hold when traction increases. Limited slips have clutch/spring packs which are subject to wear and weakening.

Check for a tag on your axle, on one of the studs holding the carrier into the housing, at about 5 o'clock some folks say.

The numbers/letters on it will tell. Post and get a reading.

Chock the front wheels and jack the truck up by the rear axle so that both tires are off the ground. Then, with the trans in neutral, turn one of the rear wheels by hand. If the other one turns the opposite direction you have an open diff. If it turns the same way you have some kind of traction device.
