My son is home to get his 79 Bronco going to try and drive it back to Ft.Bragg. It's been sitting awhile. We put in a 460 at Christmas then blew the tranny. It's been sitting at the transmission shop for a month. Just got back Thursday. It had no brakes and the brake light came on. We replaced the the master cyclinder and bled the brakes. It seems to have good pedal until we start the engine then it goes away. The pedal goes to the floor. We have double checked all lines. Can any one help us out. Thanks
Please don't be offended if I ask the obvious, but did you bench bleed the new master? That could be missed if you were really in a hurry. If not, I would suggest taking it back, and getting another master. That is especially true if you got a rebuilt one from one of the discount places. Do you have NAPA in TN? They have pretty good parts. Good luck.
Are you losing fluid in the master or just pedal w/the engine running? If the level is constant , you may need to bleed the brakes some more. I would suspect that you have a bad caliper or wheel cylinder, though, as you had brake probs before. If they're bad, they have to leak, and you should see a drop in the resevoir level.
I think you booster is shoot. Mine would do the same thing, great pedal with engine off and with it on would loose all brakes without warning, Almost got in one hell of an accident driving it. When I remove the booster it had brakes fluid inside it.
