Seems like the brands most people run are either Mobil1, Royal Purple, Amsoil, and Motorcraft in either 5W-20 or 5W-30. (I'm sure more people will chime in with more recommendations) I personally run Mobil1 5W-30 in my 5.4 V8.
I personally like M1 and RP, but motorcraft is great oil for the price. I like synthetic for the extended drain intervals, M1 extended performance and Royal Purple should be good for 10K OCI's with 5K filter changes. Most importantly, if you want to use synthetic and change it every 3K, you are completely wasting your money and good oil. Whatever you use, just change it when you are supposed to and you should have no oil related failures.
The 2 valve V10 is a 6 quart motor and the 3 valve is 7. I use to run Motorcraft but my valves started getting noisy and I tried Mobil one once and the noise stayed away longer and the motor ran stronger. I've been running Amsoil 0w-20 for the last 8k miles. Plan on changing it at 9k with either Mobil 1 Synthetic 5w-20 or Royal Purple in the same weight. I was told the Amsoil filter was the only on the market approved for 25k miles. Also... while on the subject... does Royal Purple make oil filters?
What oil are you guys running in the V-10’s??? How much oil do they hold???
What year V10? More info on your truck...is really helpful.
I run MC 5w20 and MC FL820s oil filters. Good products...at a GREAT price. FWIW: I run Royal Purple ATF in my Power Steering...and could not be happier. When it comes time to change the axle fluids...RP will get the nod there to.
Castrol GTX 5w-20 with motorcraft filters. I would be using motorcraft oil as well but I won't pay the dealer mark up and nobody else around her carries it.
I always run 5w-20 and a MC FL-820s filter. I've been running Mobil 1 but have Motorcraft oilin the pan now. I'm thinking of switching over to only MC oil because of the cost and it is a super good high quality oil.
