Intake Gaskets
I noticed a small leak coming from the back of my intake on my 1976 F-100 with a 390. I will have to pull the intake off and replace with a new gasket. Any suggestions on what to use since there is quite the gap on the front and back to fill. The leak seems to be on the right rear corner of the intake. I was told to try a product called The Right Stuff that is sprayed from a can. Has anyone used it and does it really work? Any tricks to try?
Thank You
There is a cork gasket that runs across front/back to fill in the area between intake/block. When I put a motor together for the first time I mock up the parts to see the actual gap. Then I try to fit the cork inserts. If they slide in with minimal gap left, then using silicone I glue them to block, then more on top, then place intake.
If the gap is too tight for cork, then I build up a wall using only silicone(make a tall bead all across block) then let set for a few minutes til tacky and then set intake on.
When you do it with only silicone, place side gaskets on head, then build across block and make sure you blend it up with side gaskets(at corners). This will ensure no leaks.
Like Bear mentioned, check everything for squareness. Might be twisted and that will leak no matter what you do.
