It Lives!

Yes indeedy folks...last night I fired up the 5.0 in the Ranger for the first time. Sounds pretty good although there are still a few bugs to work out. The P/S pump siezed up and I have to get another one, no big deal there. I've still got some wiring to sort out and a lot of little details before I can drive it, but I expect to have it on the road for the first drive test very soon. I'll get some pics and vids...with audio, of course, so I can post them.

I'm psyched! This has been way too long a time coming!

I was wondering what that sound was coming from the north.

Congrats Dan. That is going to be the fastest Ranger in Lake County.

Wow! I was wondering when that thing would come to life. Glad to hear it will be on the road soon. Can't wait to see/hear it in person.

I think I heard that noise too. Erm, it sounded more like an digestive tract thing from here.

Congrats Dan! I hope that what I heard wasn't you.

So, have you taken your first test drive in it yet? Did you go with the 5 speed, or an auto trans?

5-speed, and no, not yet. Setbacks with the power steering pump, couldn't find the same one I was using before from a Geo Storm and had to adapt one from a Mazda. So that's out of the way and on to the electric fan...

Cool, at least you are making progress. My neighbor's son is trying to talk me into putting a 302 in mine. With a 5 speed. It would be sweet, but I want to stick with the turbo 2.3 plan.

Awesome...if you're running the serp brackets, you can have the PS pump from the 5.0 off the Cougar, I'm running a manual rack on the '36 so have no need for it.

Thanks, but for clearance reasons I chose a P/S pump that has a remote reservoir, the Geo Storm pump fit the bill perfectly.

I had bought a nice 2950 CFM electric fan from Summit months ago, went to put it on the other day and found that it interfered with the hood latch. So I pulled the dual fans off the parts Rover and swapped them in. Still have to wire it up but for now I've had to push it onto the back burner again in favor of Thumper...
