I had a guy try to give me a jump the other day in wifey's car with an 00 PSD... he was insistent that he had to jump off the driver's side batt. because it was the "primary" battery. I tried to tell him it didn't matter, and even after I pointed out that the pass. side was the "primary" because of the battery cable config. he still argued with me! Luckily I got the car started without a jump... what a tool.
The way I heard it was, "Never argue with a moron. He'll drag you down to his level and then beat the tar out of you because you're in unfamiliar territory."
This topic might have come to an end, but I've got a pretty decent question...and since I've never had a dual battery set up, I really have no idea.
Since the batteries are connected, you're putting out 24V...so would it matter if you went to jump a regular 12V by connecting to the negative of one battery and the positive of the other battery? Either way, from what I've hear one battery is on the driver's side and the other is on the passenger's side, so it would just be impractical...but I'm just curious.
Yes, the batteries are in parallel. You add the amperage together, not the voltage. You add voltage together when the batteries are wired in series.
Larger diesel engines (semis) have devices that momentarily switch the batteries to series and apply 24 volts only to the starter, but the Power Strokes do hot have this device.

Even if batteries were in series (24V) as long as you only jump from one you still get 12V .

Oh ok...I totally forgot about that whole serieis/parallel issue. Kinda scary considering I'm studying to be an electronix engineer. Brain lapse I guess!
back to which battery to hook up to, i thought i read in the owners manual when taking a jump on a two battery system you should hook to the pass. side, do to it being closer to the starter. am i wrong here.\?
