Down here we also have killer bees. They have killed a few people in the area. Just vibrations from an engine running will set them off. My uncles and cousin were hunting in south texas and they stirred up a hive in the wall of the cabin, they got in the truck and took off to town and were followed by the bees hundres of yards. At my brother-in-law's lease in Laredo there were nests in the eaves, when ever they were sprayed there would be a solid layer of dead bees all over the cabin floor. It took all hunting season to get rid of the bees. Me, I stayed in the truck until the rest settle bac down because I'm allergic to bees.

In Phoenix we have Gila Monsters, Scorpions, Black Widows, Rattle Snakes, and the friendly Killer Bees. That's about it! Just bring a long stick, and make some noise before you look into or lift something then listen. If you can't hear anything after a couple seconds you are 50% ok to continue. Happy Hunting!
If you are in the North check out a yard called French Lake Auto in Minn @ www.frenchlakeautoparts.com. Years ago when I was looking for F1 parts they had a whole field of trucks to pull from. I don’t know what’s left but it was a fun weekend and I was able to pull a set of clean fenders, doors, and hangers from a couple trucks. Dan

IMHO the danger from critters getting yah is highly overrated. Most are much more afraid of you than you are of them and would rather not share space with you. Knowing more about the habits and life cylcle is also a good way to avoid confrontations. Around here it is best to go field trecking in the winter, most of the snakes and insects have headed underground and the foliage and overgrowth has died back making visibility much better. We are much more likely to encounter the annoying critters like wasps, fire ants, ticks and redbugs and/or get tangled in kudzu or wisteria vine or a briar patch than anything more deadly. Common sense says to wear protective clothing like leather boots with the cuffs of your jeans taped or rubberbanded over them, long sleeves and leather gloves with cuffs pulled snug. Besides a tool kit I like to carry a squirt oil can full of gasoline (MUCH more effective against wasps, hornets, and fire ants than "bug spray" and you can squirt it a significant distance), and a brush hook for clearing undergrowth and as a potential defensive weapon should you happen onto a snake or unfriendly critter unwilling to vacate.

One Of Fl Best Junk Yards
If you get to FL be sure to check out Big Als Roadside Rellics in Gainsville 220 NW 8th Ave only open on WED or call 352-372-3394 for more info. I bought my 53 there a few years ago for a great price. They have hundreds of cars and trucks none older than late 60's and thousands of new and used parts. From chrome to flat heads they have it all. If you can find it (no organization) just piles and piles a lot of in inside a big 2 story wearhouse in bins. It is worth the trip just to see all kinds of hard to find stuff. Many doors, hoods, fenders in great shape
