i have an old 48 state flag. it is in pretty good condition, just the white stripes have some staining on it, sort of giving that antique white finish to it, but overall still good.
the flag is about 6'x4' (rough guess off my head).
i was wanting to display somehow. i was thinking of getting a shadow box and putting it in there folded, to display.
anyone have any other ideas? it seems to nice to just have it sit in a box.
and yes, there is some family history to it as it was flown on the coast guard ship my great grandfather was on.
I took the route the that Jared mentioned. I have a Bonnie Blue along with two stars and bars that belonged to my great-great granddad.
I framed the flags in large 5X3 foot poster frames. I centered the flag on a cardboard back and held them in place with 4 staples. I used black construction paper to make a backing boarder around the flag.
I bought the frames locally at a film development/art studio kind of place. I believe they were like 60 bucks a piece. They had a ton a frames ranging from 15 bucks to a couple hundred bucks. The ones I picked have a nice oak frame with a aged look to them, perfect for the old flags.
Um, I'm not the total expert, but why not take a trip down to the local coast guard recruiter and ask for suggestions. Tell him the history behind the flag, let him ask around, and see what everyone comes up with.
subscribing ive been wondering the same thing as i have the 48 star flag that was drapped over my great uncles casket. the box its in even has the original post markings from italy as thats where hes burried.
What do you guys do with worn out flags??
I change mine every year or two, hang the old tattered ones in my barn & lean too. They still look good & hate to get rid of them.
