I would say you have a sticky door ajar switch, but they usually act up right after opening/closing a door, not 20 minutes afterward, so that aspect is a bit odd.

The switches are located on the lock mechanism in the door, and if they're like the ones in my '95 Ranger, they can be removed and cleaned up, but I don't think they're terribly expensive (<$20 each) if you just wanted to replace them too.

Looking at my '07 wiring diagram, the door ajar switches complete a circuit to ground when the door is open, so an abraded switch wire in the door may produce the symptoms you describe too.

Door ajar

I had similar problem door ajar light would not shut off. Also at the same time door lock would not function ether. According to repair order it says they replaced vehicle security module behind rear seat. I did have the third brake light leak earlier so maybe water got in the module. Hope this helps BWEP

I had that problem on my 98 f-150 and all I did to fix the situation was to spray some wd40 into my lock mechanism on the door.

Door Ajar Light

I have a '06 F-150 that had the same (or similar) problem, door ajar light on, dome and cargo lights would not turn off, and the power door locks would not work (the remote still did). I tried the WD-40 trick (it worked on my '98) to no avail. I disconnected the battery for about 30 minutes and when I re-connected it everything worked normally.

same thing happened to the taurus. tried every kind of lubricant i could find, but it would sill happen, even after the door was long closed, somtimes 20-30 mins after shutting the door. I had the replace the swich which involved removing the entire latch assembly out of the door! (what a pain!) but im glad i did cause the switch would not pop out all the way and would stick and slowly work its way up to complete the circuit. thats why it would happen even after the door was closed for a while. the switch was only 9 bucks from the local dealer.
