Ok this one is driving me nuts and it has only been like an hour since i noticed it. I was leaving my friends house earlier tonight when i noticed my cab lights and the door ajar light were staying on even after both doors were closed. I slammed both doors a few times with no change. I gave up and headed home and about 30 seconds down the road the lights clicked off. After i got home i tried opening and closing the doors with the keys in the ignition and the little ding alarm would not shut off even with the doors closed for about thirty seconds. I am very anoyed with stuff like this on my cars and i just want to know where to start on this one. It's a 1996 XLT 2wd.
Thanks- Cam
Try spraying WD-40 on the little button on your door jam. It would be the easiest and cheapest place to start.
There isn't a "little button" on the door jam. The switch is mounted on the door latch in the door. Just spray the door latch generously with WD-40, then open/close the door several times, and this should free up the switch.

I tried this trick on my truck numberous times before giving up and disconnecting the sensor wire. i must have disoncetted on too many wires though. not my alarm doesn't work that tells me that i left my keys in or that my lights are on.

That is because you disconnected the door ajar switch, which activates the dome lamps when you open the door, but also tells the GEM that your door is open so the GEM will not activate the chime to let you know you left the keys in the ignition or the lamps on. You can try to take the ajar switch out and clean it thoroughly or replace it.
