1999 supercab, has door ajar light on

Hey guys, my f250 supercab has a door ajar light that stays on. Also, the dome light has blown. I assume from being constantly turned on. Each of the main doors mate up to a lever switch in the rear access doors. When I open the drivers door, I get the chime sound. When I close it, the chime goes away, but the door ajar indicator stays on. So, I assumed it is the passenger side lever switch.
But, if I open the drivers door, and manually close the drivers side lever switch, the door ajar chime stays on. THis tells me, there must be more than 1 door switch for for side. Is this right? If I am right, each side has a lever switch, plus another switch, plus a second switch. (perhaps it is mounted inside one the doors.) It just seems strange to me, that I can close the drivers door and the chime turns off. If I leave the door open, and close the lever with my hand.... the door chime stays on. Does that make any sense?

Thanks guys,
Msch

The door ajar light is a common problem with these trucks. WD-40 usually does the trick. Spray the latches and inside the door with plenty of WD-40. Make sure you get plenty of spray down in the door. I don't know about the number of switchs but I believe it is only one per door. After you spray work the doors and latches a few times and that should do the trick.

...it may take a day or more for the WD40 to work. It took overnight for it to work on my '97 Lincoln Mark VIII. That was more than 2 years ago...haven't seen the 'ajar' light since.

Yep, ZX250 is right on the money with the diagnosis. However WD40 is not meant as a lubrication and doesn't last long, there are better sprays to use. I like Tri-Flow better my self. I need to spray my door switches about once a year, don't forget the door keyhole as well

Hey that's great info. Where exactly do I need to spray the lube? Is it inside the door in the door jam, or the outside where the latch is, or where the door handle is ? I'm trying to figure out exactly where I need to spray, to lube the "sticking" door switch. Does the door switch work off the rod that is in the door jam?

Thanks dudes,
Mach

The switch is inside the door @ the little plastic "arm". While yer there with a rag anyway...whynot spray every area that moves? Ounce of prevention as they say...

right just wanted to make sure I didn't miss a spot. The only plastic arm i could find on my truck is the arm on my supercab is on the mini doors in the back. I've been told those are just safety switches for the rear doors and are not the cause of my door ajar light problem. Anyway, I'll spray everthing! Thanks,
mach

PS> I agree that WD-40 isn't the best for this application. Maybe some white lithum sprray grease would work better?

I have always thought those "safety switches" were the ones that threw the "Door Ajar" light. Hence the safety part. I could be wrong though. Perhaps it has just been a coincedence when I sprayed mine? I say hit'em all!!

I agree that you should spray all that you can get the spray on. I also think that the WD-40 acts as a cleaner more than a lube. My thinking is the switchs get dirty and sticks. I used WD-40 close to 2 years ago and have not had any problems yet. I sprayed all moving parts that I could get to on front and back doors.
