that is definatly confirmed by the seat-o-pants meter, the largest noticable difference was in top end power, it defintaly throws more smoke and holds you in the seat better, also after my 3-4 shift the truck would drop off and almost flatline with power. it would still accel but noticbly slower, after the simple mod it pulls good in top end now.
i must say though that just off throttle is much nicer now as well, there is a big difference in my truck. but once past that point the rest of the lower end powerband is basicly the same, a small increase is felt.

when the ambient hit the 60's last week it ran normal, when it gets into the 30's and 40's it runs cool, if it goes into the teens and 20's then it runs at the temp in this pic. the spring and summer temp is between the "o" and "r"

You guys still kill me!! "well my truck is running at the 0....."

So does that mean 150°, 175°, 200°?

We spend all sorts of time and money modding our truck but most of you have no idea what coolant and oil temps are running down the road. I really think that a readable temp gauge should be one of the first mods we do.

Ok my rant is now done!

BTW my truck runs 200° no matter what the outside temps (0°-100°) are. If your thermostat is operating properly there should be no fluctation in operating temp with different ambient temps except when idleing cause the engine just doesn't produce enough heat when idleing.

i did take oil temp radings compared to coolant dummy gauge, i though i posted them but i'm not sure.

the temp in that picture is roughly 140-150 oil temp,
when the gauge reaches just below the n its at 170-180
i havent checked for any higher as the temps hadnt allowed for it.
my truck's oil doesnt get above 170 unless driving under load

Now with this mod will there be any problems with running it durring the summer when the temps are higher? how about if you run a dp or tw chip? sounds like a good mod though keep up the good work

I would not run this mod with a chip or programmer. This mod changes injection timing and many chip/tuners also change timing. This mod could have a compounding affect that could take timing too far.

X2

Most tuners like to see 200* oil before using a higher HP tune.

but until a chip is installed this sounds like a fun/easy mod to have, any possible ill effects?? and has it been decided which resistor is the most effective/safest

As long as we are comparing coolant temps let me throw mine into the pot.
I normally run with a 203* stat around 175*-180* and my oil temp is generally a little higher. My truck has never seen 200* until I removed my fan and viola, 200* and the temp outside lately has been a crispy 71* .

I really have to keep an eye on my tranny temp as it has a tendency to want to climb to around 160*. When summer gets here and Linda is up to travel I'll have to put the fan back on. Until then the Red Rooster is happy.

Just my nickel.

Does a after market gauge hook up in the same port as the stock one?

as long as you have the right adapter, most gauges come with several.

as for the oil mod, i would tihn kits ok to run with the generic chips, i have no probs with my truck running it, i would not run it with a tw or dp, they burn their chips for the maximum hp possible, the "other" guys do not.

i am quite pleased with a 4.7k inline with my oil temp sensor, i have not tried anything else and probably wont

Coon, do you know what is wrong with your fuel guage? Mine started to do the same thing for a few days but now it is fine. Possible grounding out issue?
