Clevland heads....Can you bolt a pair of 351C 2V heads on a 351M block. Most of the "pros" say yes...but I would like to get some details before buying a pair of rebuilt heads from DAP or somewhere. Furthermore has anyone accurately c.c.'ed a 1979 351M head. What is the combustion chamber volume. I have gotten so many answers from local and outside gurus that well I'm still checking around for a burete to answer this mystery once and for all. If anyone knows where to buy a buret online let me know. Anyway I've heard stock Clevland 2V heads will bring the compression ratio up to 9.2:1. Nothing to get real excited about but it's about the same money as pistons......unless of course there's more to this swap than meets the eye which seems to be the case. If anybody can give up some info on this "bolt on" (I use the term very loosely here...) Drop a line....
Yes Cleveland heads will bolt directly onto a 351M or 400 engine. Stock Cleveland 2V heads will not raise your compression ratio. Stock closed chamber Cleveland 4V heads will raise the compression on a 351M to roughly 9.2:1. An open chamber 4V will give you 8.2:1.
I've never cc'd an M or C head but everything I've seen & read about them say the M and C-2V are +/- 78 cc. The closed chamber 4Vs are +/- 63 cc and the open chamber 4Vs are +/- 75 cc.
Right. You'd need the Aussie closed-chamber 2Vs to bump your compression without going 4V, which is probably not a good idea unless you're going to run a lot of RPMs. Buy some reman Cleveland 2Vs and you'll find they're identical to the ones you take off your M.
I believe the factory tolerance for the 2v head are 78/80cc's.Mine came out at 809cc. The C and M heads are the same except some of the later model M heads have raised restrictive floors under the valves. A little bowl porting and port matching turns the heads into great units.
