Hi,
Have a 400 sitting in a '75 Elite (stock motor) that I want to pull and transplant into a dune buggy, but I need a couple of dimensions before I can confirm this motor will fit. The dune-buggy has a really heavy duty frame and suspension, and a strong rear-end (late 70's GM w/4.12 gears I believe.)
The 400 has a C4 behind it that I'd like to use in the combo. I need to know:
Length from tail shaft of tranny to flywheel, length from flywheel to motor mount (center), and length from center of motor mount to front of water pump.
The frame is really pretty cool and has a really solid suspension (transversely mounted leafspring and dual shocks in front, shocks and leafs in the rear) so I think it'll easily support the motor + passengers. There's no driveshaft (as you may have expected) so the tranny couples directly to the rear. I think it'll be pretty fun (scary?) in the end.
